Well, at least until
20142015 when he coaches in his first ACC basketball tournament there. In case you missed it yesterday and really Monday, Boeheim made some comments about the Gate City that weren’t well received by some of the residents and all of the local television stations.
Essentially, Boeheim broke the news that New York City is a more desirable location that Greensboro. No, seriously, that was about it. He didn’t say people in Greensboro were stupid, ugly or even delusional, just that 9 out of 10 of them would rather attend an ACC basketball tournament in the Big Apple than in the middle of the triad in North Carolina. Shock and awe.
The result? Classic ‘man on the sidewalk’ footage of Greensboro folks being ‘mad’ about Beoheim’s blatant disregard for all things central North Carolina.
Give. Me. A. Break. Greensboro. Snobs.
On to the footage. Try not to vomit.
In the first clip, which won’t embed for some reason, one Greensboro resident makes the “there’s a lot of trash in NYC’ argument. Another guy just says he’d rather spend five days in the city he already lives in and my favorite woman compares ACC basketball with the furniture industry. Alrighty then.
If you want more ridiculous footage, go here.
The only part of Boeheim’s comments that he might regret once he does visit the Triad is the one he made about just “grabbing some food” between games and going back to the hotel. Once he tries Stamey’s BBQ across the street from the Coliseum, he may have second thoughts.
